Psalm 119:1-8 Bible Study with Questions, Cross References, and Teaching Points

Psalms 119:1-8

The Blessing of Obedience

Summary-I am blessed if my walk is blameless, and that can only be achieved by walking according to God’s laws. This walk cannot be now and then, but must be with my whole heart, and with no unrighteousness mixed in. Such a lifestyle will help me not to be ashamed when I see myself in the mirror of His Word. The more I learn of His righteousness, the more I give thanks to Him for it. God is faithful to care for His obedient children.

Central Teaching- A lifestyle of wholehearted obedience brings God’s blessing and freedom from shame.

11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned;

In keeping them there is great reward.

Ps 78:4-8

4 We will not conceal them from their children,

But tell to the generation to come the praises of the LORD,

And His strength and His wondrous works that He has done.

5 For He established a testimony in Jacob

And appointed a law in Israel,

Which He commanded our fathers

That they should teach them to their children,

6 That the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born,

That they may arise and tell them to their children,

7 That they should put their confidence in God

And not forget the works of God,

But keep His commandments,

8 And not be like their fathers,

A stubborn and rebellious generation,

A generation that did not prepare its heart

And whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Ps 119:11

11 Your word I have treasured in my heart,

That I may not sin against You.

John 15:3

3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

2 Tim 3:15-17

15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

James 1:21-25

21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.
