About the Poem and Writer: This poem was written by Du Fu (712-770). He had a great influence on Chinese and Japanese ancient classic poems. He was called the "god poet" and passed down 1500 poems. This poem was written when he and his brother were separated by war. In the moonlight, he missed his time with his brother in their hometown. This part of the poem is often used by modern people in the moon festival or when they are homesick for family or friends. Over time the poem's meaning has gradually changed to include missing any family or friends, not just a brother.
