About the Poem and Writer:
This popular Chinese poem was written by Yang Wan Li (1127~1206). He
along with three other poets were the so called "famous poets of the
Song Dynasty." He served the emperor for much of his life and showed
his patriotic love for his own country faithfully during times of
distress and trouble. This attractive poem is almost like a painting of
words. It beautifully described the early summer. In it you can see the
lotus flower just as a small bud emerges. There on the bud, a dragonfly
is already standing on it and enjoying the fresh air.
